During ultrasonic embossing, individual texts or logos can be “stamped”, for example on artificial leather or corsetry, with little force.
In ultrasonic embossing, the anvil acts as a stamp. The sonotrode presses the material that has been heated by ultrasound, onto the stamp, so that its surface is transformed. Once the material has cooled, embossing is completed. Materials, such as artificial leather, textile fabrics made from artificial fibres, non-woven or thermoplastic films are suitable for ultrasonic embossing.
Because the material is heated by the ultrasonic oscillations, the force applied during ultrasonic embossing is significantly less than in mechanical processes. Further benefits include the short embossing times, as well as the simplicity of the method itself.
Ultrasonic embossing is used almost exclusively in special applications, e.g. in the textile industry for applying logos and labels to corsetry or in the automotive industry for embossing artificial leather in the interior.
